Start Planning Early,

No matter how many babies are growing in your belly, it’s always a good plan to book your newborn photographer as soon as possible, if you’d like to wait until about half way through when you know the sex of your baby, this is a great option too because then you can choose the colours that you’d like used for your session. If you want to book with a photographer that you know is well sought out you should book asap. 

If you’re having a singleton pregnancy with no complications so far, your best bet is to schedule your newborn session 1-2 weeks after your due date. Babies hardly ever come on time so if your baby arrives a little later than your due date your session should still work for you without having to change the date and reschedule. If your little one comes 1-2 weeks earlier than planned it might be a good idea to reschedule your session with your photographer. Let your photographer know when babies has arrived and they will let you know if your date still works with baby’s projected age. 

Twins usually arrive between 35 and 40 weeks. So planning an exact date for your newborn session might be a little more tricky. I’d suggest booking it for a week before your due date and then change it as needed. Some twins need to spend time in the NICU or be closely monitored after they’re born so often it’s a good idea to wait until they’re a tad bit older. Between 2-4 weeks of age depending on their health. 

Triplets or higher Multiples will almost certainly be born early and need NICU time. When booking newborn photography it’s best to use their corrected age and book a week or so after. If things go really well your session should be able to be moved up. Depends on your photographer. For Triplets I hold a spot open for the entire month so that I can accommodate any birth date of your babies. This will include me checking in with you every now and then to see how your little ones are doing after delivery.
